Traditional Home · Thrissur
Sreenilayam
Brief
A nalukettu built around a teak-columned nadumuttam, open to the sky at its centre. The plan turns inward on that courtyard, with the hall, dining and verandahs all reading onto it, so light and air move through the whole house from one opening.
Approach
Built in the traditional idiom and detailed accordingly — carved teak columns and corbels, exposed rafter ceilings, laterite piers to the verandah and clay tile throughout. Joinery, furniture and the pooja were made for the house rather than bought for it.
